Where Excellence Began
The Indian Institute of Psychology and Research (IIPR), Bangalore, was established in 2003 with a vision to create a centre of excellence in psychology education, research, and human development. The institution was initially managed by the Sri Krishna Rajendra Charitable Trust (SKRCT), a trust committed to promoting quality education and social progress.
IIPR was the brainchild of two distinguished visionaries—Late Sri Ramakrishna Hegde, former Chief Minister of Karnataka, and Late Dr. Jeevaraj Alva, former Education Minister of Karnataka. Their shared vision was to establish an institution that would nurture future professionals equipped with the knowledge, skills, and values required to contribute meaningfully to society.
During its formative years, the institution was guided by the leadership and commitment of Mr. L. K. Raju, Secretary of SKRCT, whose dedication and support played a vital role in strengthening the institution and shaping its growth.
The Governing Council, led by Dr. Jai Prakash Alva, inspired educational transformation through visionary leadership, laying the foundation for competent, compassionate, and future-ready psychology and counselling professionals.
Guided by Service and Vision
In 2014, IIPR entered a new phase in its journey with a change in management and campus location. The institution came under the management of the Franciscan Fathers of the Order of Friars Minor (OFM), a globally respected Catholic religious order known for its commitment to education, social service, and human development.
Today, IIPR functions as a unit of the Sarvodaya Seva Sangha (SSS), a non-profit charitable society established in Bengaluru more than five decades ago. Guided by its mission of service and social transformation, SSS has been actively reaching out to marginalized and underprivileged communities through a wide range of educational institutions, support centres, developmental programmes, and social initiatives across India.
Shaping the Future
The association with Sarvodaya Seva Sangha has strengthened IIPR's commitment to academic excellence, ethical values, social responsibility, and holistic education. Backed by a dedicated Governing Council and an experienced Board of Management, the institution continues to evolve as a leading centre for psychology education and research.
Over the years, IIPR has remained focused on its core mission—developing skilled psychologists, counsellors, researchers, and mental health professionals who can make a meaningful difference in an increasingly complex and rapidly changing world.
